Work begins with the feature ring. Layout calculated & drawn out for one
repeat. |

All feature ring wood cut to width & thickness.. |

Rough cutting the individual pieces to length. |

Using the disc sander & jig to get the edge smooth and correct. |

Work continues... |

Cutting the Wenge pieces. |

Will need 16 of these. |

First chance to view a complete segment design. |

Glue-up starts. The mdf jig helps with alignment. |

Gluing the middle row. |

All the segments are pieced together but not yet glued-up vertically..
|

Vertical gluing in progress. |

Segments completely glued-up. |

Ends rough cut to proper angle & a first look at what it will look like
when completed. |

3 piece inserts made, segment edges sanded to accurate angle & dry clamped
to check fit. |

Preparing for ring glue-up. Need to be careful here - there is a lot of
work at stake. |

Success! |

Working on the base ring - segmented with a center plug. |

Fitting the plug |

Looks right. |

Glue applied. |

Thickness sanding body rings |

Initial rings glued on to base. Tailstock jig used to center rings during
glue-up. |

Last ring added will be parted in two after this picture. |

Parted off half is sanded to thickness. Will be added back after the
feature ring is glued in place. |

Time to turn the bottom half of the inside smooth. |

Gluing the feature ring in place. |

Back on the lathe. |

Making up the pieces for veneer rings. First step is to cut to width &
length using a paper cutter. |

Second step is to pile up the pieces between 2 pieces of mdf. Then
the edges are sanded to the proper angle & final length. Glue-up follows. |

All rows have now been added. A bit of turning on the outside has been
done. |

Turning the outside continues. Upper half close to final shape. (Time for
a bigger lathe.) |

Bottom half of the outside in progress. |

Turning & sanding completed. Multiple coats of Teak Oil applied for a
smooth
finish. |

Bowl has been parted off from the faceplate and the bottom returned,
signed & finished. |
